The Federal Benefits Open Season begins soon

The Federal Benefits Open Season takes place Nov. 11 to Dec. 9 this year. It is the annual opportunity for retirees and surviving spouses to enroll in, change or cancel dental and/or vision coverage with the Federal Employees Dental and Vision Insurance Program.

Coverage becomes effective Jan. 1 for people who enroll during this open season.

Once a person enrolls in a FEDVIP dental and/or vision plan, coverage automatically continues each year until cancelled. Changes can only be made to a plan during an open season or if there is a qualifying life event such as a marriage, divorce, acquired family member or death.

To enroll in a FEDVIP plan, go to the BENEFEDS website at https://www.benefeds.com/. Under the Programs tab, select "Enroll" under the “Dental and Vision” section.

For people with who need more information or assistance, a Virtual Benefits Fair is available throughout the open season. Special “chat days” are set for Nov. 15 and 22, and Dec. 4. Chat days allow people to chat with carriers, review 2020 plan details, and get specific information in one convenient online location. People can register to attend by visiting https://www.benefeds.com/ and click on “Education and Support”.

People who are unable to enroll in FEDVIP online or without internet access can call BENEFEDS Customer Service at 877-888-3337.
