Three locations offering special days for retirees

Three bases are planning special events for retirees in the coming weeks.

The Annual Military Retiree Seminar sponsored by the commanding officer and the U.S. Naval Submarine Base Retired Activities Office in Groton, Conn., takes place 9 a.m. to noon Oct. 20 in the base's Dealey Center Theater. A valid military identification card is necessary for entry to the submarine base.

Retired Army Maj. Gen, William M. Matz, president of the National Association Uniform Services, will present a national legislative benefits update, and the state Veterans Affairs Commissioner, Linda S. Schwartz, will provide current information from VA.

There will also be brief updates regarding retired pay/survivor benefits, military health care, legal services, and travel/recreational facilities. Following the presentations, the ID card office will be available for renewals, the base RAO and VA offices will be open for assistance, and a Defense Finance and Accounting Service representative will assist with pay matters.

In Kansas, the McConnell Retiree Day is Oct. 27 in the Dole Community Center ballroom.

Activities begin with medical screenings, 7 to 9 a.m.; various briefings, 9 a.m. to noon; lunch in Signatures, noon to 1 p.m.; more briefings 1 to 2:30 p.m.; free wine testing at 6 p.m.; dinner at 7 p.m.; and dancing at 8 p.m.

Moody AFB in Georgia has scheduled its Retiree Appreciation Week activities to kick off Oct. 28 through Nov. 3. Events include specials at the commissary, bowling center and skills development center. There will be a golf tournament Nov. 2, followed by Retiree Appreciation Day on Nov. 3.

Various briefings, a flag-folding ceremony, health and information fair, and static displays and a military working dog demonstration are scheduled for Nov. 3.
