RETIREE APPRECIATION DAYS

Retiree Appreciation Days are a great source of the latest information for retirees and their family members. RADs vary from installation to installation, but most provide an opportunity to renew acquaintances, listen to guest speakers, renew identification cards, get medical checkups, and various other services.

April 2015

Patrick Air Force Base in Florida is having its 30th Retiree Appreciation Day on April 18 starting at 9 a.m. and ending at 1:30 p.m.  The event is open to all military retirees, or surviving family members.  Speakers at the base theater will cover subjects including legal, Disabled American Veterans, financial and other topics of interest to the retiree.  Retired Lt. Col. Shane Ostrom is the keynote speaker covering federal legislative updates on military benefits.  Tables will be set up with information and representatives to answer questions.  No reservations are needed. F.E. Warren Air Force Base in Cheyenne, Wyoming, is having a Retiree Appreciation Day on April 18 at the 90th Medical Group Center starting at 9 a.m. until 1 p.m.  Activities include an opening ceremony, guest speakers, breakfast, base tours, base historical videos, luncheon, and 24 various information booths.  Survivor benefit counselors, retiree pay issue representatives, and staff for ID cards will be available.  For more information, call the RAD office at 307-773-5944 or 307-773-2309; or the public affairs office at 307-773-3381.  Queries via email can be sent to retired Master Chief Petty Officer Mike Archer at mikearcher@bresnan.net.

The first joint Retiree Appreciation Day at Joint Base McGuire-Dix-Lakehurst, New Jersey, takes place April 25.  The day kicks off with a personal welcome from the joint base commander, followed by speakers on subjects of key interest to military retirees, including updates on retiree benefits and privileges.  There will be information tables set up for face-to-face question-and-answer sessions with experts.  Retirees from all service branches are invited to this special event. May 2015

Joint Base Lewis-McChord in Washington is the site of a Retiree Appreciation Day taking place at the American Lake Community Center on May 16, 7:30 a.m. to 1 p.m.  A no-host breakfast will be available in the dining room 8 to 10 a.m.  Activities include a Madigan Medical Center Health Fair with 54 medical clinics; an informal gathering area with snacks; information tables; legal assistance; and individual counseling services. The Marine Corps Recruit Depot San Diego Retired Activities Office is having its annual Military Retiree Appreciation Seminar and Resource Fair on June 6.  The event takes place at McDougal Hall (Depot Theater) 8:30 a.m. until 12:30 p.m.  This event is free and open to retirees, future retirees, and their families from all branches of the uniformed services.  For more information, call 619-524-5728/5732.

November 2015

The Commander Navy Region Southwest is hosting an annual Military Retired Personnel Seminar and Resource Fair on Nov. 14, 8 a.m. to 1 p.m., in the Anchors and Spurs Catering Conference Center at Navy Base San Diego.  Seating is limited so advance registration is required by calling 858 277 4259.  For more information, call 619-556-7788.
