AFTERBURNER STATUS
Posted 9/14/2009
Printable Fact Sheet
There were no funds to publish/mail hard-copy editions of the Afterburner from August 2006 to August 2009; however, a hard-copy edition was mailed in September 2009.
Please ensure your address is current with the Defense Finance and Accounting Service, the agency that provides the Air Force with retiree and annuitant mailing labels. (See Afterburner Frequently Asked Questions for more information.)
An online version, or e-Afterburner, is produced three times a year. Whereas the printed version is sent only to retired Air Force members and surviving spouses eligible to receive pay and compensation, anyone with computer and Internet access may read it online.
Many online subscribers suggested format changes for the electronic version of the newsletter, the e-Afterburner. The formats -- .pdf and .doc --should make reading and navigation easier, and hopefully, will alleviate certain downloading difficulties some people experience.
The goal is to make the e-Afterburner more user-friendly for the more than 70,000 online subscribers. To do this, the .doc format is simpler without all the graphic "bells and whistles." The intent is to make reading the e-Afterburner less harrowing for those subscribers who are not quite as computer savvy, who do not have the latest and greatest computer systems, or who lack the fastest Internet Service Providers.
Many Air Force retirees, spouses and surviving spouses do not have a computer, or access to one. Those people can contact a friend, family member, church group, veterans group or local library for assistance to download copies for them, and even subscribe on their behalf.
To opt out of receiving a hard copy Afterburner -- to save money and trees -- please send your full name, mailing address and the last four digits of your Social Security number to afpc.retiree@randolph.af.mil. Also mention if you need to be subscribed to the electronic edition or if you are already an e-subscriber.
