The Harlingen Retiree Activities Office at the Naval Reserve Center in Texas has temporarily closed after suffering extensive wind and water damage from Hurricane Dolly.

Operated by military retiree volunteers, the RAO serves nearly 4,000 retired servicemembers and their families living in the Rio Grande Valley, said retired U.S. Marine Corps Capt. Noe Vera, the RAO's director.

The Harlingen RAO is a satellite location of Brooks City-Base RAO in San Antonio. Retired Chief Master Sgt. Fred Dickinson, the Brooks RAO director, and his staff have offered to provide assistance to valley retirees who need help. The Brooks RAO is open Tuesday through Thursday, 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. People can e-mail inquiries to react@brooks.af.mil, or call toll free (866) 654-3540.

It could take several months or more to make the required repairs to the areas damaged by the hurricane, said Lt. Michael Voogd, the reserve center's commanding officer.
