Exchange Select products stretch customers' dollars

With energy prices cutting deeper into the pocket book, consumers are searching for ways to cut costs in other areas.

They need to look no further than the Army and Air Force Exchange Service's Exchange Select line with 489 different items, according to AAFES officials, noting that customers can save an average of 50 percent over national brand equivalents.

The Exchange Select items in categories such as health and beauty care, household cleaning, laundry and single-use cameras all are made by reputable manufacturers to provide lower-cost alternatives to national brands.

Representatives of AAFES Quality Assurance team actively ensure the quality of Exchange Select merchandise by visiting suppliers' plants to verify "Good Manufacturing Practices," as set by the Food and Drug Administration and other governing agencies, are used. All over-the-counter medicines, such as ibuprofen and acetaminophen, meet FDA established guidelines, which are the same for Exchange Select and national brand equivalent products.

"Exchange Select quality is equal to or better than equivalent national brands," said AAFES Buyer Jennifer Little. "Buying these great products from the BX/PX ensures customers receive savings at the register in addition to seeing quality of life improvements around the base or post from increased Morale, Welfare and Recreation dividends."

AAFES officials say that Exchange Select will continue to expand its product breadth. Future stock assortment additions include nail implements, smoking cessation gum, oatmeal lotion and mountain fresh scent laundry products.
