Events set for retirees in Florida

Military retirees in Florida can take advantage of a couple of upcoming events.

The annual Air Force Enlisted Village Charity Bowl-A-Thon is set for Aug. 29 beginning at 2 p.m. in the Eglin AFB Bowling Center. Retired Chief Master Sgt. of the Air Force Jim Binnicker, the village's president and CEO, is the event's host. Participants will include residents and staff from the villages, plus active-duty members.

"The Bowl-A-Thon is more than a fundraiser," Chief Binnicker said. "It's an opportunity for the active-duty airmen to meet our residents and have a great afternoon."

Participants are asked to gather pledges to raise money for the AFEV, one of the four official charities of the Air Force. Pledge forms are available at the AFEV's Web site at www.afenlistedwidows.org. Call the village at (850) 651-3766 to sign up.

At Patrick AFB, the Retiree Activities Office is planning a Military Retiree Spouses Seminar in October. The event takes place 9 a.m. to noon Oct. 20. For more information, contact the office at (321) 494-5463.
