SHALIMAR, Fla. (AFRNS) --
The Air Force Enlisted Village's Grandparent's Day Open House is set for 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Sept. 8 at Bob Hope Village, Teresa Village and Hawthorn House. The event features entertainment, informational booths, apartment tours and many more activities.
"It's a great opportunity for the community to see what we're all about," said retired Chief Master Sgt. of the Air Force Jim Binnicker, the AFEV's president and chief executive officer. "Many people, even those in the local area, aren't sure who we are or what we do. When they attend the Open House, not only will they have a great time with the events planned, they'll also leave with a better understanding of the Air Force Enlisted Village."
Although the events do not start until 10 a.m., people can get an early start at the Teresa Village flea market, which will open at 8 a.m. All three locations will have informational displays from a wide variety of community groups, including Gold Star Wives, Gentiva Health Care, the Air Force Sergeants Association, and the Poquito Bayou Homeowners Association. Also, each location will offer apartment tours.
Entertainment will include displays of resident artwork and crafts, a barbershop quartet, and animals from Save Our Cats and Kittens. In addition, the Fort Walton Beach Junior ROTC will kick off the event at Teresa Village with a demonstration. A raffle will also be held for a patriotic afghan handmade by an Air Force Enlisted Village resident; two Thomas Kincade music boxes; and other items. Food will be available for purchase at all locations. For a complete schedule of events and directions to the three locations, visit the AFEV's Web site at http://www.afenlistedwidows.org/
