  • 78th anniversary of the Doolittle Raid

April 18 marks the 78th anniversary of the Doolittle Raid, in which Lt. Col. James H. Doolittle, U.S. Army Air Forces, and Vice Adm. William F. Halsey Jr., U.S. Navy, led a joint bombing operation on the Japanese mainland aimed to inflict both material and psychological damage upon the enemy following the attacks on Pearl Harbor.
  • CSAF takes in NASCAR race with Total Force Recruiting

Air Force Chief of Staff Gen. David L. Goldfein spent a day at the track visiting with Air Force recruiters, including Maj. Gen. Jeannie Leavitt, Air Force Recruiting Service commander. Goldfein also administered the oath of enlistment to 20 of the newest members of the Air Force on the track’s infield and met with members of Richard Petty Motorsports, which Air Force Recruiting Service has been sponsoring for 11 years.
  • Air Force releases criteria for new Remote Combat Effects Campaign Medal

The new medal, established by then-Secretary of the Air Force Heather Wilson, is part of a continuing effort to recognize U.S. Air Force military members in a non-deployed status who directly participated in a Department of Defense combat operation from a remote location.
  • Wilson praises Airmen, expresses gratitude in farewell remarks reflecting on her tenure as Air Force secretary

She praised the skill and dedication of Airmen while comparing lessons learned from gardening as a corollary for the qualities that make for good leaders and an effective Air Force secretary. You need a plan, she said; you need friends to help, meaning allies, and “as long as it’s safe, let people tinker with the tools.”
