Department of the Air Force Retiree Council

The Department of Air Force (DAF) Retiree Council links members of the Air and Space Force retiree communities—retirees, family members, and surviving spouses living worldwide—to the Air Force Chief of Staff. The council consists of 2 co-chairs (appointed by the Chief of Staff) and 15 area representatives (appointed by the co-chairs) acting on the behalf of retirees by geographical area in the United States and overseas. Each council member oversees the retiree activities programs within their respective area of responsibility. 4 members-at-large serves as subject matter experts. The council has a vested and deeply personal interest in ensuring the retiree community issues are given deserving attention.

The council was established in 1972, with the first meeting in 1973 chaired by the late Brig. Gen. Roy Casbeer (USAF retired). Incumbents are retired Lt. Gen. Darryl Roberson and pending appointment of the vacant co-chair.

As the direct link between the Air Force Chief of Staff and the retiree community, the co-chairs play a crucial role in proactively advocating concerns to senior leaders. In addition to overseeing the Department of the Air Force (DAF) Retiree Council, they meet annually at the Air Force Personnel Center with the council members to address identified retiree issues.

At the invitation of local commanders and Retiree Activities Office Directors, they visit Air and Space Force installations for a first-hand experience. Their efforts extend beyond the DAF, as they meet with retiree council co-chairs from sister services to discuss common issues, presenting a coordinated effort to ensuring the needs of all military retirees and families remain a top priority.

Annual meetings are held at Joint Base San Antonio-Randolph, Texas. Department of the Air Force Retiree Council vacancies are publicized in the Afterburner, News for Department of the Air Force Retired Personnel.
