The C-9A Nightingale, which was in use between 1968 and 2003, was the only aircraft specifically designed for the movement of litter and ambulatory patients. The specialized capabilities, such as isolation areas and electrical systems to support medical devices, made it easier and safer to transport critical patients. (U.S. Air Force photo)
