The most recent edition of the Afterburner is the one at the top of the left-hand column below. The Afterburner is produced twice a year when funding permits, and is mailed via U.S. Postal Service to those without Internet access. An announcement and link to the online version of the Afterburner is emailed to those people with a myPay email address on file with the Defense Finance and Accounting Service.
The Air Force has partnered with the Defense Finance and Accounting Service in this effort to save postage costs. People with a myPay account have been removed from the hard-copy mailing list. Instead, using the email address they have listed in myPay, they will receive an email notification with a link to the latest Afterburner.
Retirees and annuitants can keep their email address updated by logging into myPay at https://mypay.dfas.mil/mypay.aspx. Once logged in, click on "Email Address" and review/edit the "Personal Email address" block. When finished, click "Accept/Submit" button.
If you do not have a myPay account:
To opt out of receiving a hard copy, please send:
- Your full name, status (retired rank/surviving spouse)
- Mailing address
- The last four digits of your Social Security number
via email to afpc.retiree@us.af.mil. Also list if you need to be subscribed to the electronic edition.
Whereas the printed version is sent (when funding is available) only to selected retired Air Force members and surviving spouses eligible to receive pay and compensation, anyone with computer and Internet access may read or subscribe to the Afterburnerelectronic version online.
(Note: There were no funds for publishing/mailing hard-copy editions of the Afterburner in 2007 and 2008. Before then, the last hard-copy edition was published in August 2006.)
